Sources and methods

References for the Pokémon and Health dossier, with their origins, reading status and the limitations of the research.

English edition · Research cutoff: · English edition published · Updates

This library brings together 199 documents deduplicated by URL. It combines studies, institutional documents, announcements and personal accounts. This number is neither a count of trials nor a count of independent pieces of evidence: several publications may use the same cohort.

Each reference indicates how much of it was read. An abstract, catalog entry or extract supports more limited conclusions than a full text. An official communication confirms an initiative; it does not, on its own, demonstrate its effectiveness.

The guide discusses findings, comparators and biases in detail. The catalog connects these documents to products and uses.

Search the 199 documents · View updates

How the sources were searched

The search combines PubMed, OpenAlex and a scientific index with web searches and examination of original documents. Queries were adapted in French, English, Japanese and Chinese. They cover favorable effects, negative results, risks, official initiatives and players’ experiences.

The process also includes Exa, Brave, web pages, YouTube, RSS/Atom, V2EX, Bilibili, X, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram and GitHub. Access depth varies: search-engine results, video descriptions and transcripts that were read are distinguished. Brave returned empty results, including for a control query; this is treated as a connector limitation. Access continued to limit some Bilibili readings and scientific texts.

Experiences shared on social networks help identify uses and questions. They do not measure their frequency in the population and do not replace studies. Facebook searches in this pass yielded no relevant health post retained for the dossier; Instagram reading mainly informed the account of commercial communication around Sleep.

The scope and ambition of this guide

Twelve comparator documents were examined in French, English and Japanese: scientific reviews, a book and a book chapter, institutional resources and editorial overviews. The review by Koh and colleagues, published in 2026, maps 186 sources on Pokémon GO. This guide broadens the scope to the franchise, including Sleep, Smile, care and institutional programs.

The aim is to build the most comprehensive guide possible. The comparison concerns the documents actually examined, with their access limitations; it is not a worldwide ranking. Paid books, unindexed resources and less explored languages remain avenues for further work.

Revision log

: publication of the complete English edition, including the fifteen chapters, overview, catalogue, source annotations and personal exploratory ideas. Each page links to its counterpart in French. The research cutoff remains 20 September 2026.

: added chapter emblems, visual cues for document types, a diagram of the four dimensions and illustrations from the project. These elements support reading without changing the scientific conclusions.

: expanded discussion of Pokémon’s specific contribution, eleven detailed exploratory proposals, a timeline of six documented milestones and more explicit references. Presentation checked on a 400-pixel phone display; scientific corpus unchanged.

: each of the fifteen chapters now has its own page, local contents and links to neighboring chapters. The text and sources are shared with the complete guide; its URLs and anchors are preserved.

: added a short synthesis, guidance on the nature of the evidence, detailed contents and search filters. A map and two sourced diagrams complement the illustrations. The scientific corpus remains that of 20 September.

: added entry points through questions and reflections, chapter summaries and links between the analyses and the catalog. Nine project illustrations support reading; they are identified as imagined scenes.

: moved from an article series to a thematic guide; brought together the historical corpus and new searches; distinguished shared cohorts, official programs and third-party initiatives; corrected interpretations concerning the Pokéwalker, empathy and links with cancer.

Scientific findings, product conditions and programs may change. The search date does not mean that every cited page was published or updated on that day.

Suggest a source or correction

To extend this dossier, send a reference or identify a passage needing clarification through Julien Welmant’s contact channels. Include the page, the passage concerned, the original source and what it allows us to correct or add. Care situations can be described without personal patient data.

Each proposal will be reviewed before inclusion. An update will state the date, the reference added and its effect on the wording or conclusion. Substantive corrections will be distinguished from presentation changes.

A scientific review and external reading sessions are being prepared. No external opinion has yet been obtained for this version; the checks performed concern documentary consistency and presentation.

Adolescents’ Assessment of Several Step Tracker Mobile Applications Based on Their Previous Level of Physical Activity

Author not specified · Date not specified

Document partially read · en

Scope and reading limitations

240 adolescents aged 12 to 16 participated for ten weeks. Four apps were randomly assigned within classes; the distinction between active and inactive participants was not randomized. Of 59 GO participants, 17 dropped out (28.8%), including 13 of the 29 initially inactive participants (44.8%). The overall difference in dropout between apps was not significant (p = 0.318); the difference in the inactive subgroup was significant (p = 0.012).

Limitations: Convenience sample in two schools, with a 10% incentive on the physical education grade and targets of 4.5 to 8 km three times a week. This analysis has no group without an app. The cohort probably overlaps with the 2024 trial, given the identical sample sizes and allocations. There are multiple comparisons, and the reported η² thresholds are inconsistent: a value greater than 1 is impossible. No significant before/after change in problematic phone use is reported for GO.
